[ARCHIVED] DPW Leaf Collection Now Underway

Leaves in the street are more likely to clog storm sewers and cause street flooding. Excess leaves in stormwater can have a negative impact on our rivers and lakes as well. Only leaf piles on the parkway within five feet of the curb can be collected by the Village's vacuums.

DPW crews make every effort to maintain a day-certain leaf collection schedule, providing the service to every home once each week during the leaf season. Please be aware that vacuum leaf collection will cease if there is any type of frozen precipitation. The vacuum machines are unable to pick up leaves that have frozen to the ground or are exceptionally heavy from water. If the weather forecast is questionable, residents are strongly encouraged to bag leaves for collection.

Yard waste other than leaves must also continue to be bagged for collection. Do not include any yard waste debris other than leaves in your leaf pile. The vacuum machines are unable to collect twigs, branches, plants, pumpkins or other compostable material. These plug the vacuum resulting in collection delays and costly repairs. Leaf piles with these items will not be collected.

For more information about leaf collection, please visit the DPW's websitewatch this informative PSA or check out this helpful leaf collection flier. Barring freezing precipitation or other unforeseen circumstances, vacuum leaf collection will run until Friday, December 1.
