[ARCHIVED] Village Board Accepts City's Proposal for Edgewood Avenue

bikelanes

The cost of the Edgewood Avenue project is being split 50/50 between the City and the Village, and the work is expected to be completed before the end of this year. Pedestrian curb extensions contribute to pedestrian safety and the primary reported benefit of advisory bike lanes is the reduction of motor vehicle collisions on streets with such lanes. This design contributes to traffic calming, promotes driver alertness, and allows a type of bike lane to be created on streets that otherwise might be considered too narrow for traditional bike lanes. Adding this type of lanes on Edgewood will also allow parking lanes to remain on both sides of Edgewood (whereas traditional or protected bike lanes would have to be eliminated parking lanes in whole or part).
