The training includes twenty-eight law enforcement officers from area jurisdictions who will be focused on improving the outcomes of police interactions with people living with mental illness.
CIT programs are local partnerships between law enforcement, mental health providers, local National Alliance on Mental Illness (NAMI) chapters and other community stakeholders. CIT programs provide 40 hours of training for law enforcement on how to better respond to people experience a mental health crisis. Effective CIT programs are based on strong relationships between law enforcement, mental health care providers, families and people living with mental illness. We welcome the officers to Shorewood as they continue their efforts to enhance the service that they provide to the community.
