Hydrant flushing is performed annually in an effort to clear the mains of water that may be discolored or have sat in hydrant laterals for extended periods of time. Generally flushing disturbs the water in the mains and causes mall particles of rust or calcium buildup to dislodge and suspend in the water.
This water may appear in your home as discolored and may have a yellow to orange to red color. This water, while unappetizing, poses not health threats but may stain clothing. Please refrain from washing clothing between the hours of 7:00 a.m. and 3:30 p.m. during the week hydrants in your area are scheduled for flushing (Schedule and map).
