On June 22, the Plan Commission began discussion of updates to the Village’s Off-Street Parking Requirements. This has been identified as a top initiative for the last three years and has commenced on the heels of their recently completed work updating the Village’s Comprehensive Plan. The Commission was provided an overview of existing regulations, alongside some general planning theory, questions and comparison standards. The discussion provided direction as to what future modifications could involve, including the requirement’s applicability, ratios per use classifications, general guidelines, and special exception procedures. Additional discussion is expected to take place at their July 27 regular meeting.

The Technical Advisory Group of the Village’s 2020 Transportation and Parking Analysis met on June 24 to discuss a draft Traffic and Parking Regulation Request Program. This program would cover items such as traffic controls (stop/yield signs), marked crosswalks, traffic calming and on-street parking regulations. Corresponding to the overall goals of the Analysis, the program would provide a clear mechanism to process and review requests for modifications to the Village’s existing regulations based on established standards. The program, which will be proposed as a new Village Policy, will be considered by the Village Board on their July 6 agenda.
