Garlic Mustard Weed-Out—Preserve our Past, Protect Our Future
When: Saturday, May 22, 9:30 a.m.
Where: Shorewood Nature Preserve, between Menlo and Newton on Lake Drive
Thirty nine years ago, an unspoiled piece of lakefront property was officially dedicated to become the Shorewood Nature Preserve. (For more information, see the Shorewood Historical Society). Native wildflowers grew in abundance throughout the area. Then, a strong invasive plant, garlic mustard, took hold and spread. Today, it is outcompeting native wildflowers and threatens the natural diversity of the preserve.
You can help restore this Shorewood treasure. Join volunteers Saturday, May 22 at 9:30 a.m. to remove garlic mustard and make a difference. Also, consider capturing some of this weed for yourself in order to make a delicious pesto. Get a free pesto sample and take home a recipe to make your own. Thank you for helping out.
