Village Board Statement: Let us be very clear – hate has no home in Shorewood

The Village Board for the Village of Shorewood supports the peaceful protests that have occurred locally, state and nationwide. During a march in Shorewood on Saturday a member of the community spat on a juvenile male during a verbal altercation that took place on the sidewalk along Oakland Avenue, both are residents of Shorewood. The Village Board wants to let the community know we denounce this behavior. We are proud of all the Shorewood youth that stood up to speak about their experiences at the march on Saturday. The Village Board recognizes the diversity of our community is our strength and is joining those around the nation to bring an end to violence and injustice towards people of color.

According to the Shorewood Police Department Facebook post and press release this morning, the suspect involved in the incident was arrested and booked, however, due to the Milwaukee County Jail’s current policies pertaining to the COVID-19 pandemic, they were unable to take her to the Milwaukee County Jail. The Shorewood Police Department will be referring criminal charges to the Milwaukee County District Attorney’s Office for this incident.

Let us be very clear – hate has no home in Shorewood.
