On May 18, the Village Board approved an ordinance establishing smoke free parks and beaches in the Village of Shorewood. This means the Village will be enforcing all areas of Atwater Park (inclusive of the beach, bluff and upper park), Hubbard Park, River Park, Triangle Park, the Village Nature Preserve, and Humble Park, but excluding the areas of Hubbard Park that are subject to private lease (such as the Hubbard Park Lodge and the River Club).
The penalty for violating the smoking ban in these areas is between $100 and $250. If you encounter someone smoking in a public park or beach, please inform them of this new ordinance change. If the person doesn’t comply, then please contact the non-emergency Police dispatch phone number at 414.351.9900 and an officer will be onsite to help enforce this measure.
A special thank you to the North Shore Health Department, Parks Commission, and the Conservation Committee for their attention on this issue.
