[ARCHIVED] Water Meter Replacement Open House

Shorewood utilities

The Village has contracted with Midwest Meter and Vanguard Utility Service to replace the water meters in all Village residences in 2020.

The Village will be hosing an open house on Tuesday, March 31 from 1:00 - 3:00 p.m. and 5:00 - 8:00 p.m. in the Village Center (3920 N. Murray Ave.).

The new Advanced Metering Infrastructure (AMI) system will eliminate the need for manual meter readings. Daily readings of your water usage will be automatically transmitted to the Utility which will allow for earlier identification of interior plumbing leaks and improved distribution system analysis. This project, mandated by the Public Service Commission, will require Village staff and/or contractors to enter your home to replace the water meter. Property owners will be contacted with scheduling options beginning in April. Meter installation is scheduled to begin in June.

A few things to keep in mind:

  • Most water meters are located in the basement of a home. Clear access to and around the existing water meter will be needed.
  • The Village owns and maintains the water meter. However, plumbing to / from the meter (including isolation valves) is owned and maintained by the homeowner and must meet Village Code / Wisconsin Plumbing Code.
