[ARCHIVED] Historic Shorewood Newspapers Available Online

Shorewood Historic Society

The Shorewood Historical Society announced that it has completed the digitization of over 60% of the community’s historic newspaper archives of 78,000 pages. Years 1923-1972 are completed and years 1973-2004 are a work in progress with an expected completion by early 2020.  The newspaper archives had several names but was best known as the Shorewood Herald.

“Now our community and other interested parties can easily, conveniently access and search the reported history of Shorewood online from their computer or other internet devices via a link called “Newspaper Archives” from the Society’s website home page” said Bob Dean, president of the Shorewood Historical Society.

The Historical Society pre-released the historic digital newspapers to its members and is receiving a positive feedback.  “My dad already discovered a picture of himself in the paper from 1965. He also works on genealogy so he may find some information to add to the family tree,” said Kathy Haase, a Shorewood Historical Society member.

Interested parties can access the collection by selecting “Newspaper Archives” from the Shorewood Historical Society’s website home page: shorewoodhistory.org. The digital access to the newspaper archives is provided courtesy of the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel. All rights reserved. Use of the Shorewood Publications is restricted to educational, research and other non-commercial uses.

Founded in 1984, The Shorewood Historical Society is a non-profit 501(c)(3) organization with the mission to preserve the history of Shorewood and educate citizens about the history of Shorewood.
