[ARCHIVED] Summary of Triangle Park Meeting

Triangle Park Community Meeting

There was a great turnout at the Triangle Park community meeting on September 10. Over 50 people came out to have a community discussion with the Parks Commission. Here is a brief summary of the discussion:

1. Majority of people want the park to be left alone with the exception of improved lawn maintenance and weeding practices.

2. There were differences in opinion related to the flagpole. Some individuals expressed support for either moving the flagpole to the side of the park or removing it all together to open the park for children and adults to play. Others wanted to keep the flagpole there, especially considering it was a gift from the Shorewood Woman's Club several decades ago and has special history associated with the park.

3. Minor improvements that could enhance the park experience includes benches and picnic tables as long as they stay along the outer edges of the park. There could be fundraising efforts for these amenities if they are included in a final plan to be established by the Parks Commission and the Village.

4. The Village should review the plantings around the flagpole. There were some concerns about the amount of space taken up by the plantings in the middle of the park. In addition, it impacts visibility of nearby patrons for motorists.

These are just some of the many discussion topics conducted at the park. The Parks Commission will be reviewing all of the feedback collected from participants during their next meeting in October and hope to provide a recommendation to the Village by the end of the year. If you have any recommendations or comments to share with the Parks Commission, please contact Assistant Village Manager Tyler Burkart at 414.847.2705 or via email at
