[ARCHIVED] Tax Assistance Program in Village Center

A free tax and e-filing service will be provided by volunteers from AARP. The assistance will be provided in the Village Center every Thursday starting February 7 through April 11 from 1 - 5 p.m. Walk-ins are welcome, and appointments for future dates can be scheduled on site during the tax assistance period. Individuals should bring a picture ID, Social Security card, their 2017 tax return, and 1099 forms (for investments, pensions, distributions, etc.), W-2’s, Social Security forms (1099-SSA) and documentation for any other income. If deductions are to be itemized, bring receipts for property tax, mortgage interest, medical expenses, donations, etc. (preferably summarized).

Homestead Credit filers should also bring a completed and signed rent certificate or 2018 property tax bill. If you plan to use direct debit or credit, bring a check from your account (for routing and account numbers). AARP volunteers will be prepared to help with Affordable Care Act tax matters. Please note that features including married-filing-separately, rental properties and recent divorces are out of their scope and they will be unable to address these issues.

In addition to this program, the Shorewood Public Library offers basic federal and state tax forms, instructions (1040, Wisconsin Form 1, Homestead), and a computer from which you can print additional forms and instructions for free.
