[ARCHIVED] Village Board Adopts 2019 Budget

Shorewood

This past Monday, the Village Board adopted a 2019 budget that increases the tax levy by only 0.6%.  Looking back at the Village's 15-year history, this will be the Village's smallest percentage levy increase during that time span. The Village Board and staff worked incredibly hard on this year's budget to get it to this point - so next time you see a Village official, please thank them for their efforts.

2004-2019 annual percent change in levy

There are a few other "Budget 101" talking points that we'd love to share with you.  When you see your annual property tax bill, the Village portion of that bill only represents 28% of it.  The Shorewood School District is the largest share at 42% followed by Milwaukee County at 18%, Milwaukee Metropolitan Sewerage District (MMSD) at 6%, Milwaukee Area Technical College (MATC) at 5%, and the State of Wisconsin at 1%.  The Village's tax rate (28% of your entire tax bill) is estimated to be $7.63 per $1,000 of assessed value.  It is currently estimated that your entire tax bill will increase by 2.9%, which will be roughly $238 on a $300,000 valued home.
