[ARCHIVED] Shorewood Becomes a 'Lake-Friendly' Neighborhood!

lakefriendly_newsflash

Becoming Lake-Friendly means we agree to joining the Plastic-Free MKE coalition, educate our community members about plastics, support Plastic-Free MKE initiatives, sharing Shorewood’s plastic-reduction initiatives and materials with others in the movement. Additionally, Shorewood will help expand the Lake Friendly Business program and continue to implement a yard waste and compost collection program. Shorewood currently has two Lake-Friendly businesses, Cloud Red and Draft & Vessel.

Leah Holloway, Program Manager for Milwaukee Riverkeeper and a lead organizer for Plastic- Free MKE, shared, “We are excited to work with Shorewood to expand awareness of the harms of unnecessary plastics and the collective actions we can take as a community to drive systemic change." While Sherman Park was the first neighborhood in Milwaukee to achieve this designation, Shorewood is the first municipality to be recognized in the program.

Stay tuned for more information about celebrating Earth Month with the launch of the Catch the Wave Shorewood project next week. This new project is aimed at reducing single-use plastics in the Village and elevating this special designation to a new level! In the meantime, visit the Plastic Free MKE website for details on how you can become part of the solution to reduce plastic use.
