It has taken over four years and a significant amount of work to meet that requirement. Water utility customers, current and prospective homeowners can access Shorewood's Water Service Material Dashboard to quickly determine the service line material for both the public and private water service lines on any Village property.
The inventory was built largely on data collected during the 2021-2023 water meter replacement program, but utility staff put in hundreds of hours doing follow-up investigations to confirm service materials. The next required step is notification to any customers and/or property owners served by a line of lead or unknown material - approximately 2,500 notifications are expected to hit the mail in late October. These notifications are now required annually to each customer/property owner AND to any new customer at the time a billing service is established. This will be a significant administrative effort going forward.
Thank you to our dedicated leadership team - Public Works Director Leeann Butschlick and Superintendent Dan Heyen, our Water Utility team - Foreman Dave Kunze, Operators Scott Erickson, Bill Nowak, Kyle Pinzer, Josh Sterr and John Socha - supported by the entire Public Works Department.
We are so lucky to have this team here in Shorewood!
