The Academy consists of a series of classes, discussions and hands-on training held once per week in the early evening. Each class size is limited to twelve students, and there is no cost to anyone who enrolls.
The classes provide an in-depth view into various areas of law enforcement such as traffic enforcement, criminal investigations, court and charging procedures, and firearms. There will also be a block of instruction on crowd control. This educational and informative program also offers citizens the opportunity to learn about the issues that affect law enforcement efforts in the Village and how to develop a partnership with the Police Department.
The goals for the Academy are to create a better understanding of police procedures and regulations through education; develop a partnership between the citizens and police to establish a safer community; and to improve communications between the community and police department.
The classes will begin in early April with the final class and graduation on May 9. To find out more about the Academy and to sign up, click here to visit the Police Department's Citizens' Academy webpage.
