On Monday, June 16, the Village Board received public comment and the survey results related to the Safe Streets and Roads for All demonstration activities that have been installed in various locations in the Village. In general, the majority of the comments saw the activities as favorable, while providing suggested modifications to the designs, and other or additional locations to consider. Other comments were also submitted voicing opposition to the installations, noting concerns about driver comprehension, the size of the installations and impacts to pedestrians and bicyclists.
Ultimately, the Village Board voted to keep the installations in place, excepting the traffic circle at Murray and Kensington, which will be removed prior to the Shorewood Criterium, through the end of September, at which time they will be removed to prepare for fall and winter street maintenance. More details on the program and the complete results of the public comments can be found starting on page 140 of the Village Board's materials. A final report on the results of the grant-funded activities is expected to be presented to the Village Board later this summer.
