Stormwater Pollution

We can easily improve stormwater runoff quality by reducing the things we put on the land!

Solutions to Reducing Dirty Stormwater Runoff

  • Keep the land clean - pick up trash and dog waste, reduce garden and lawn chemicals and salt use, fix leaking vehicles.
  • Keep the rain where it fall to reduce runoff before it starts:
    • Rain barrels
    • Rain gardens
    • Native plants with long roots that help water infiltrate
    • Trees hold hundreds of gallons of water on their leaves until it evaporates. Their root systems also help water infiltrate into the ground.
