Job Summary

The Village of Shorewood's Department of Public Works is recruiting individuals to be a part of their summer seasonal staff as an Urban Forestry Intern. The Urban Forestry Intern works under the direction of the DPW Services Foreman to provide support in the maintenance of more than 6,500 Village-owned trees located in the public rights- of-way, parks and other municipal areas. This position assists the forestry department with the emerald ash borer (EAB) control program and other routine tree maintenance work and is responsible for daily monitoring the gravel bed irrigation system. This position also provides crucial support to Village horticulture and parks operations and will assist with other Public Works tasks as assigned. The position may operate automotive and seasonal equipment including but not limited to light trucks, golf cart-type service vehicles and other Village equipment. The pay range for a DPW seasonal is $17.00 to $19.00 per hour.  Majority of the work will be from May through August and require work 40 hours per week over the summer.


Job Requirements

Qualified applicants must have completed coursework in horticulture or a related filed or have at least two years of related experienced and/or training. Applicants must also have possession of a valid Wisconsin Drivers License and meet the physical demands of the position, which requires regular lifting and moving of up to 25-50 pounds.
