April 13, 2019, 11:00 AM @ Harry's Bar & Grill
One of the reasons why Shorewood is considered one of the best places in Wisconsin to live and bike is our ready access to the Oak Leaf Trail, in particular the River Trail and Eastside Trail (which provide an easy and safe 3.5 mile ride to downtown Milwaukee) and the new Zip Line (which provides an easy and safe 7 mile ride from just North of Capitol Drive all the way to Brown Deer Park).
The River Trail and Eastside Trail have no street crossings, and the Zip Line has only a few. These trails each resulted from converting discontinued rail road corridors to bike/ped trails, and they are some of the most used trails in the state (on busy summer days more than 3000 bike riders cross the bike/ped bridge over Capitol Drive).
2019 Opening Day for Trails is Saturday at the South Shore Pavilion. Members of Greater Shorewood Bikers gather at Harry’s Bar & Grill (3549 N. Oakland Ave.) at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday for a group ride down to the event. No charge. All are welcome.
