On-Street Overnight Parking Update

The Village Board adopted modifications to the Village’s overnight parking regulations at their September 8 regular meeting. This decision culminated nearly two-years’ worth of study, meetings and discussion associated with the Village’s comprehensive Transportation and Parking Analysis. All changes are to become effective January 1, 2021.

The updated regulations will allow for the purchase of a monthly On-Street Overnight Parking Permit to park vehicles on Village streets Monday through Friday. Weekends and holidays will remain exempted from permit requirements. The cost of this permit was approved at $40 per month. Permits will be limited to two per household unit and will be unlimited for commercial businesses whose late-night/early-morning employees may require the permit. Alternate-side parking will be enforced on weekdays, requiring cars to be parked from 3:00 a.m. to 5:00 a.m. on the oddly-addressed side of the street on odd calendar days and the evenly-addressed side on even calendar days. The monthly price of an Off-Street Overnight Parking Permit to park in one of the Village’s public or private contracted lots was reduced from $50 to $30. Monthly Off-Street Daytime Parking Permits were also reduced to $30, and the price of a 24-hour Off-Street Parking Permit was modified to be $50 per month. No changes were made to the On-Street Overnight Temporary Parking Permissions program, which currently allows vehicles 20 free overnight permissions within the calendar year.

Staff will be preparing a communication plan for implementation throughout the fall to help residents and other interested parties understand the change. That plan will include updates to the Village’s web site and other village-wide communication efforts. They will also be working with the Village’s software parking vendor to implement the change to allow for the online purchase of permits in time for the new year. A 6-month review in the summer of 2021 was also confirmed to take place, at which time permit figures and any capacity issues would be addressed.
