  7. March on Milwaukee Community Discussion

    May 29, 2018, 7:00 PM - 8:30 PM @ Kingo Lutheran Church

In August 1967 the Youth Council of the Milwaukee NAACP led the first of 200 nights of marches calling for fair housing throughout the city. In April 1968 following the assassination of the Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., Milwaukee's Common Council passed an open housing ordinance that extended beyond the National Civil Rights Act signed into law just weeks before. This history, largely overlooked by historians, affects our city today. Kingo Lutheran Church will host and facilitate a discussion surrounding the March on Milwaukee which occurred 50 years ago. The discussion will take place on Tuesday, May 29. Discussion materials were developed by students in Marquette University's Future Milwaukee community leadership program. Join us for an open discussion, learn about Milwaukee's history, and share your stories of social justice. This event is FREE and open to the public. Seating is limited. Register at https://march-on-milwaukee.eventbrite.com or by calling 414.964.2620.
