Community Events

The Village of Shorewood takes great pride in coordinating several community events for residents and visitors so they can enjoy the community and have a greater appreciation of this wonderful Village many of us call home.  Listed below are several annual community events coordinated by Shorewood entities and organizations.  This page provides general information on some of the main events sponsored by the Village of Shorewood.  The Village will include more specific information on these events through their communication channels (i.e. via the Manager's Memo and Keep in Touch).  If you have any questions about these events, feel free to call the Village of Shorewood at (414) 847-2700.
Yard Clean Up

Spring and Fall Yard Clean-ups

 
The Spring Yard Clean-up usually takes place the end of April or early May. The Fall Yard Clean-up takes place in late October or early November.  The 2017 Spring event is currently scheduled for Saturday, April 29.  Shorewood Connects sponsors this day, asking for volunteers to help older and disabled homeowners in Shorewood to help them get ready for Spring or Fall.  Form a group of friends or family to spend a couple hours making a difference in your community! You can sign up for the event by contacting Michelle Boehm at 414.698.4369.  You will need your own rake, but a light breakfast is provided.
Farmers Market
Shorewood Farmers Market
The Shorewood Farmers Market began in 2015 thanks to the efforts of Tia Torhorst and other community volunteers.  Several vendors come to sell their food and products every Sunday from 9:30 AM to 1 PM.  The event moved to Lake Bluff Elementary School for 2016 and is returning for 2017.  The first farmers market will occur Sunday, June 18.  More information about the Shorewood Farmers Market is located on their website: http://www.shorewoodfarmersmarket.com/.

Criterium Bike Race

Every year, the Village of Shorewood hosts a leg of the “Tour of America’s Dairyland” Criterium Bike Race. Bicyclists compete through the streets of Shorewood as residents and businesses organize block parties and cookouts to enjoy the race. The 2017 Shorewood Criterium Cycling Classic route will follow N Oakland Ave, E Wood Place, N Maryland Ave, and E Kensington Blvd. Plus, join us for food, drink, and music at the Kensington Square Block Party from 2 to 7 PM, located a block north of Kensington and Oakland. Through the months of July and August, the Village of Shorewood along with businesses and organizations in the community sponsor the Summer Concert Series.  This is a free event for residents and guests to visit Hubbard Park and enjoy the music festivities.  Normally the music begins at 6 p.m. with the featured performance starting close to 7 p.m.  In 2015, the bands Tweed Funk, Five Card Stud (pictured to the left) and De La Buena performed.  Residents are encouraged to purchase food or beverage from the Hubbard Park Lodge but are welcome to bring a picnic to enjoy the concert.

Fireworks

July 4th Parade and Celebration


The Village of Shorewood coordinates an annual July 4th parade and celebration for the community. For 2017, the parade will begin at 3 PM along Oakland Avenue from Kensington Blvd to Edgewood Ave. Free ice cream and live music is available at the Spector Field Pavilion where the parade ends. More festivities take place at Atwater Park starting at 5:30 PM. Some of the activities include face painting, balloon tying, a dunk tank, live music along with food and beverages for sale, and a fireworks show to cap it all of at 9:30 PM.

Through the months of July and August, the Village of Shorewood along with businesses and organizations in the community, sponsor the Summer Sounds Concert Series. This is a free event for residents and guests to visit Hubbard Park and enjoy the music festivities. The music begins at 6:00 PM with the featured performance starting close to 7 PM. For 2017, the music will be performed by Random Maxx (July 12), Five Card Studs (July 19), Jazz Express (July 26), and Ian and the Dream (August 2). Residents are encouraged to purchase food or beverage from the vendors at the park but are welcome to bring a picnic to enjoy the concert.
National Night Out
National Night Out
The Shorewood National Night Out occurs every year in early August from roughly 4:30 to 7:30 PM.  The event is scheduled on the 3900 block of N Murray Ave.  National Night out is an anti-crime and drug prevention event that provides an opportunity for public safety agencies to interact with the public. The event typically provides a K9 demonstration, a self-defense demonstration, and a "Jaws of Life" demonstration by the North Shore Fire Department.  Several food vendors from the area are present to offer food options and taste tests.  Door prizes have been provided to participants along with the chance to dunk someone in the dunk tank.

Plein Air
Plein Air Shorewood
Plein Air Shorewood is a community celebration and appreciation for art in our community.  Approximately 3,000 people participate in the event which takes place over three days in September.  Artists will visit Shorewood from all over to setup their art easels and create art masterpieces with different images around Shorewood.  In 2015, there was a block party at 4500 N. Oakland Ave. with live music, food and activities for kids.  A free breakfast is offered by the Plensa Sculpture at Atwater Park.  Finally, there will be a tented art gallery and art sale on the front lawn of the high school with an awards ceremony for participating artists.  For more information, feel free to visit http://pleinairshorewood.com/.
Fish and Feather Festival
Fish and Feather Festival
The Fish and Feather Festival in Shorewood is a great opportunity for residents and visitors to enjoy the river banks of the Milwaukee River, the fall colors, salmon running up the river, great food, and music. The festival is sponsored by the Shorewood Waters Project.  Other activities include fly fishing and angling demons, watching Birds of Prey with the Schlitz Audubon Nature Center, interacting with several booths from local outdoor organizations, a kid's birdhouse, as well as pumpkin and fish painting.  Contact Kae Donleavy at 414.588.0617 if you're interested in volunteering or have questions.

Shorewood Tree Lighting Celebration
The Shorewood Tree Lighting celebration takes place the first weekend in December.  The location of the tree and the event rotates between different Shorewood businesses every year.  Residents and visitors can enjoy Santa, snacks, entertainment and giveaways at the celebration.  In 2016, the Shorewood High School Jazz Ensemble and the Shorewood High School Chamber Choir were present.  Additionally, the Shop Shorewood Holiday Raffle occurs throughout the month of December, allowing shoppers to enter to win fabulous gift baskets.
