Legislation in Wisconsin
In 1999, the Wisconsin Legislature enacted new comprehensive land-use legislation, referred to as the Smart Growth law that provides a framework for the development, adoption, and implementation of a comprehensive plan.
Adoption in Shorewood
After 18 months of preparation, the Village Board of Trustees adopted The Village of Shorewood Comprehensive Plan 2030 on January 18, 2011. The Plan Commission acted as the steering committee throughout 2010, guiding village staff in the creation of the plan.
About Comprehensive Plans
A comprehensive plan is a tool for citizens and elected officials to guide the future growth of their community. As a long-term plan, it anticipates the future of the village and is the most important implementation tool for increasing the quality of life for everyone in the village.
Over the past 5 years, Shorewood has adopted numerous plans and studies and distributed various community surveys. These efforts and findings greatly contributed to drafting the Shorewood Comprehensive Plan, decreasing the amount of time necessary for adoption.
